VESA’s Flat Display Mounting Interface defines standardized mounting interfaces, but the presence of a VESA pattern does not prove the mount’s weight, desk or movement limits. Consider VIVO model STAND-V013L only as an example of how to read a listing. VIVO documents support for two 13–27 inch monitors, laptops from 10–15.6 inches, 75 × 75 mm and 100 × 100 mm VESA patterns, and up to 15.4 lb per monitor. It lists a 12 × 11 inch laptop tray, a 17.5 inch pole and a 55 inch arm span. For desk attachment, it specifies 0.4–3.2 inches for the C-clamp and 0.4–1.6 inches for the grommet configuration.

The table is deliberately not labeled “compatible.” Several individual checks pass, but the second monitor, computer output, tray retention, edge shape and movement envelope remain unresolved. Compatibility is the intersection of all required gates.

Measure the screen envelope

  1. Place painter’s tape on the desk to mark the proposed pole or clamp position.
  2. Record the outside width and height of both monitors—not just the diagonal size.
  3. Choose whether the laptop is centered, left, right or stacked. Mark its chassis outline at the planned height.
  4. Add the deepest planned arm extension and check the distance to the wall, shelf and seated work area.
  5. Draw the cable path from each moving device to power and video connections, leaving enough slack for the intended motion.

After connection, Windows users can open Display settings, identify each screen, arrange the numbered displays to match the physical layout, and choose Extend when that is the intended mode. Microsoft also recommends testing pointer movement across the arranged displays. For other operating systems, use the model-specific support documentation rather than assuming the same display limit.

  1. Verify the computer and dock first. Confirm the exact number and type of displays supported at the intended resolution.
  2. Verify each monitor independently. Record VESA pattern, display-only weight and outside dimensions.
  3. Verify the laptop tray. Check chassis dimensions, weight, restraint method, ports and airflow.
  4. Inspect the desk. Confirm thickness, material, edge shape, underside clearance and wall distance against the manual.
  5. Mock up the layout. Use tape or cardboard outlines before lifting equipment.
  6. Follow the manufacturer assembly sequence. Do not substitute hardware or exceed the specified capacity.
