A conventional dual arm brings two screen supports back to one base or pole. One manufacturer manual shows a dual system with a single clamp-or-grommet base. That reduces the number of attachment locations, but one desk area must meet all installation requirements.

Two single arms normally give each screen its own base. This can help when the desk center is blocked or the screens need widely separated starting points. The desk must, however, provide two suitable locations with clear access underneath.

Do not assume one base always uses less practical space or two bases always distribute load better. Base geometry, desktop construction and screen position all matter.

Think About Positioning and Mixed Monitors

If both monitors are similar and will remain side by side, a dual system designed for that layout may be straightforward. Some dual systems support stacked layouts, but the manual must state that capability.

Measure desk thickness at the exact attachment location. Check underneath for an apron, rail, drawer or cable tray and behind the desk for wall clearance. For a grommet mount, verify permitted hole size and desktop thickness.

Manufacturer manuals show why exact-model checking matters: clamp and grommet configurations can have different thickness limits, and dual and single products can use different hardware.

Plan cables at both full extension and the closest working position. A dual system may route cables toward one pole; two singles create two paths. Leave enough slack without pulling on connectors.

Compare Total Cost and Future Changes

Compare the complete package. Check whether the price includes the desk attachment, VESA plates, screws, spacers and cable-management parts. Include approved adapters, if required, and compare warranty terms.

A dual system may reduce the number of bases to install. Two singles may let you replace one arm when only one screen changes. Neither route is automatically cheaper or easier.
