Short answer: a 32-inch monitor cannot be matched to a dual stand on weight alone. It must pass four separate checks at the same time — screen-size range, per-arm (and, where stated, total) weight, VESA pattern, and desk-mount fit. A stand that holds the weight can still reject a 32-inch screen because its documented size limit is 30 inches.
This guide works through the four checks using real, publicly documented monitors and arms, so you can reproduce the checks on your own setup. The products below are specification examples only — they are not recommendations and no testing was done by us.

The Four Compatibility Gates
A dual stand must clear every gate below. Failing any single one means the setup should not be judged compatible.
1. Screen-size range
The arm's documentation states a maximum monitor size (measured by screen diagonal). The two Dell 32-inch-class examples used below each have a 31.5-inch viewable diagonal and are about 27.9 inches wide. If an arm's documented limit is 30 inches, either of these monitors is outside it — regardless of how light it is.
2. Weight: per arm (and total only when the manual states one)
Each arm has a per-display weight capacity. Check the monitor's weight without its stand — the original base is removed when you mount it. Some manuals also state a separate total limit for the whole unit; only apply that gate if the manual lists one that differs from simply adding the per-display figure.
3. VESA pattern
The monitor's mounting holes must match a pattern the arm supports (commonly 75×75 mm or 100×100 mm).
4. Desk-mount fit
Clamp mounts have a desk-thickness range, and some arms have more than one clamp configuration for different thicknesses. Grommet mounts need a hole of the right size and a desk within the thickness range. A stand that fits the monitors can still be unusable if it does not fit the desk.
Worked Example: A Compatible Pairing
Two publicly sold 32-inch monitors against the StarTech ARMDUAL3, which documents support for monitors up to 32 inches and 8 kg per display.

The two monitors sum to 14.18 kg (7.4 + 6.78). The ARMDUAL3 datasheet states 8 kg per display and support for two displays, but no separate total limit — so each monitor is checked against 8 kg individually, not against a combined total.
For the desk clamp, the ARMDUAL3 manual gives two configurations: lower screw holes for a 40–85 mm desk, upper screw holes for a 10–50 mm desk. A 25 mm desk fits the upper-hole configuration only.
Result: this pairing passes the four documented specification gates. Final screen positioning, arm movement, and surrounding clearance still require an installation check.
Why Weight Alone Is Not Enough
Consider the StarTech ARMDUAL30. Its arms are rated to 9 kg per display, and the manual separately caps the whole unit's load at "do not exceed 20 kg". A 7.4 kg and a 6.78 kg monitor fit those numbers — a weight-only check would say the pairing is fine.
But the same manual states the side-by-side size limit is 30 inches:

The only failing gate is size. A 32-inch monitor exceeds the ARMDUAL30's 30-inch side-by-side limit, so the setup fails even though weight, VESA, and desk fit all pass. Note the difference from the ARMDUAL3: the ARMDUAL30 manual states an independent 20 kg total limit, while the ARMDUAL3 states only a per-display figure — but neither changes the size outcome. Size and weight are separate limits and must be checked separately.
Layout Space Check (Additional)
Two 32-inch monitors side-by-side are about 1,418 mm (55.8 in) wide overall, since each panel is 709 mm (27.9 in) wide. Before installing, confirm your desk has that much horizontal room and that the arms can reach your intended positions.
Exact arm angles, the gap between the two panels, and how far the screens sit from the pole depend on your specific layout and are not covered by the size and weight specs above. Check those against the arm's manual before mounting.

Compare each value against the stand's published clamp configuration, grommet hole size, and thickness limits.
Decision Result: Pass, Conditional, or Fail
- Pass: size, weight (per arm and, where stated, total), VESA, and desk fit all fall within the arm's documented limits.
- Documented fit, final setup check required: all four gates pass, but the monitor sits at a stated maximum or the setup still depends on installation details such as spring adjustment, arm movement, or clearance.
- Fail: any single gate is outside the limit — for example a 32-inch monitor on a 30-inch arm, or a desk thickness outside the clamp range.

The rule: one fail anywhere means the setup is not compatible, no matter how many other checks pass.
